Daytrip from Istanbul: Edirne
Edirne, located near the borders of Greece and Bulgaria, is a fascinating and often overlooked day trip from Istanbul. This former Ottoman capital is home to some of the most spectacular Islamic architecture in the world and has a charm and pace of life that feels wonderfully unhurried.

Direct buses depart regularly from Istanbul's Esenler bus terminal, and the journey takes around 2.5 hours. Trains are also available, though less frequent. Aim to arrive early to have a full day of exploration before heading back in the evening.
